# I have received << Test discount code >> instead of real discount code in the Mailchimp test message

I have sent a test email from Mailchimp. I have received << Test Discount code >> in the message instead of the actual code assigned to the subscriber. Have I done something wrong?

<< Test Shopify Discount Code >> indicates that it is a test email sent from Mailchimp. Mailchimp does not add actual merge tag values in test emails.

As you can see, the same is true of the subscriber's first name. If you want to test generating discount codes, you need to sign up for a newsletter/place a test order in your shop, or take another action depending on which trigger you have set up.
